Deputies approves; Perez clarifies

Reinaldo Pared Perez has clarified that President Leonel Fernandez never said the passing of constitutional reform would be postponed. Press reports yesterday interpreted the President’s declaration as an intention to postpone the reform process. Senate President Reinaldo Pared Perez said that Congress was a separate body and the President could only request an extension, not order one. Pared said that the bill that declares the need to reform the constitution will be passed next Tuesday by the Deputies and would become law in 45 days.
