Bailout picks up votes
At least 20 House members said they had switched positions and would now support the proposed $700 billion bailout of the nation’s financial system. If none of the previous “yes” votes switch to “no,” the measure has enough support for passage. Rep. Howard Coble, R-North Carolina, said he decided to switch his vote after constituents who initially oppossed the plan began urging him to back it. “Inaction is not an option,” he said.
