Frozen water
Ultra long distance swimmer Marcos Diaz is training for two hours today starting at 5:30pm in the Olympic Center pool in Santo Domingo. Hielo Alaska, the DR’s leading ice supplier, has chilled the water temperature at the aquatic center’s 25-meter pool so he can acclimatize to the cold waters he will find during the last stretch of his Swim Across the Continents. The event is an initiative aimed at creating global awareness of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Between May to August, Diaz made four open water swims connecting the five continents of the world. The first crossing linked Oceania with Asia, from Papua New Guinea to the shores of Indonesia (May 2010).
