GOP leaders ‘optimistic’ about bailout
Senior House Republicans say they are optimistic the House will pass a $700 billion bailout of the U.S. financial system. The House defeated an earlier version of the proposal on Monday. “Is it perfect? No. But it’s clearly better than it was a week ago,” said Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, the House Republican leader. “I’m optimistic about today.”
