Heart transplant
The director general of the Department of Taxes (DGII), Juan Hernandez is recovering from a heart transplant at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Director General of Customs Rafael Camilo said that Hernandez’s medical team reported that the operation was a success. Hernandez is on leave of absence for the duration of his recovery. Acting director is Germania Montas, who was deputy director of the DGII prior to Hernandez’s illness.
