Some of the President’s closest allies
It its Sunday edition, El Nacional newspaper focuses on the select group of a dozen men and women who have accompanied President Leonel Fernandez in his terms as President. Top on the list is Hector Valdez Albizu, the president’s choice for governor of the Central Bank with 10 years under Fernandez. Another close collaborator is Marino Vinicio Castillo, appointed director of the National Council of Drugs in 1996, and as secretary of state without portfolio in 2004 and now heading the Ethics Commission.
Frank Rodriguez was appointed secretary of agriculture in 1996 and has served in several capacities, including his current post as director of the National Institute of Water Resources (Indrhi), and the Dominican Agrarian Institute.
Euclides Gutierrez Felix, who was appointed to the Corporation of State Enterprises (Corde) in 1996 and has served as Superintendent of Insurance for the last eight years.
