4,000 women seek office in Iraq

Nibras al-Mamuri says she is running for a seat on the Baghdad provincial council to defy men who believe a woman’s place is in the home. “I’ve entered a battlefield where women have to prove they are competent,” she said. “I have to forget about fear.” She is one of 4,000 women in Iraq who may have put their lives on the line in Saturday’s provincial elections.div class=”feedflare”
