The swearing in ceremony for the 4,036 government officials elected in the 16 May election took place on 16 August. The posts were 32 senators and 183 deputies who were elected for a six-year period. Also, 155 city mayors, 155 deputy mayors, 1,149 city councilors and their substitutes, and 229 directors and 229 deputy directors of municipal boards, in addition to members of those bodies. The officials will serve in these posts until 16 August 2016.

The PLD’s Reinaldo Pared Perez will continue to head the Senate, and Abel Martinez, also of the PLD, will head the Chamber of Deputies. The ruling PLD party has 31 of the 32 senators, in addition to its ally PRSC that has one senator. In the Chamber of Deputies, the PLD has 105 members, and the PRD 75 and the PRSC 3, according to Hoy. Of the 32 senators, 20 were re-elected.
