Child mortality up
wtorek, sierpień 24th, 20101,253 babies have died this year in public hospitals, according to government records. El Dia reports that as of June, deaths were reported for 740 babies 0-7 days, 260 babies 7-28 days and 253 babies 28 days-11 months. The main causes of death were bacterial sepsis with 30.2%, breathing difficulties with 28.5%, septicemia 29.2% and pneumonia 13.4%. 72% of the deaths occurred in five public hospitals: Robert Reid Cabral (18.3%), San Lorenzo de Los Mina (17%), Arturo Grullon (13.5%), Jose Maria Cabral y Baez (12%) and Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia (11.3%).
