Hispaniola in Miss Universe
Miss Haiti, Sarodj Bertin and Miss Dominican Republic, Eva Arias are representing the island of Hispaniola at the Miss Universe pageant. Fashion designer Leonel Lirio, who created the gown worn by Amelia Vega when she won Miss Universe in 2003, is responsible for their costumes. Another Dominican designer, Jorge Diep has created the costume for Miss Jamaica.
Leonel Lirio derived his inspiration from the carnival folk group, Los Pepines of Santiago for Miss Dominican Republic Eva Arias’ white and glitter dress at the Las Vegas, Nevada event. Miss Haiti Sarodj Bertin will be wearing a dress inspired by her country, with a large skirt with black and white photographs of the people of Haiti.

The Miss Universe contest final will take place on 23 August.
