Judicial first on identity theft
A man has been convicted by the Second Collegiate Tribunal of the National District and sentenced to serve an eight-year sentence and pay damages to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) for the actual damages that were caused by having two cedulas, ID cards, obtained with forged documentation. Maximo Suero Feliz obtained a second cedula with the name of Odalis Elias Tejada Hernandez and a third one, in the name of Rafael Bonifacio Contreras.
The JCE’s Litigation Unit submitted a complaint and an accusation against Suero Feliz for violation of Article 148 of the Dominican Penal Code for using false documents and for violating Articles 7 and 13 of Law 8-92, which covers the cedula and its use. Violations of these laws carry a sentence of 3 to 10 years.
