New Police chief will promote respect
The new National Police chief, Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, said during his swearing-in ceremony yesterday that he would focus mainly on crime prevention. During his speech, the new Major General of the National Police said that he would not “put peaceful coexistence at risk” and assured that “he would work to continue strengthening crime prevention”. Polanco Gomez said that this strategy “would limit criminals’ scope of action”. The former director of Criminal Investigations said that according to several indicators on criminality in Latin America there are signs that citizen safety exists in this country, and for this reason he plans to continue the Democratic Security project.
He invited police personnel “to be prudent, tolerant, and respectful of the institution of the Republic, the laws and the international conventions”. He defended the notion that crime prevention “is one of the principal points of the institution”.
