Terrified drivers helpless as raging torrent hit
Rescuers saved terrified drivers Tuesday after a broken water main turned a suburban Washington street into a raging torrent of icy water. “All of a sudden just a gush of water came along with boulders and parts of trees,” one driver said. Some motorists tried frantically to get help. A woman trapped in an SUV scrawled her husband’s phone number on a piece of paper and flashed it to rescuers and reporters.
